2010: 85. I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie

“The purpose of a movie critic is to encourage good films and discourage bad ones.”

I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie, Roger Ebert

This is actually one of the rare re-reads that I read (actually, re-read, I guess) since I’ve been blogging, and I find I don’t have much new to say about it than I did in 2006.  It’s a collection of 2 star or less reviews, and it’s great fun to watch Ebert eviscerate these turkeys.  I didn’t find a single review I disagreed with (and I’d seen a distressing number of the clunkers, back from my days living at home when my mom would rent anything, so long as she hadn’t seen it before).  Ebert can certainly write (he has a fantastic blog), and writes about film in an entertaining and often informative way.  You might learn more about movies from his books on the Great Ones, but you might have more fun watching him at work on really terrible films.
